The

DANCE:
This series evolved from one
painting, PLACE OF THE SUN DANCE,
as I continued exploring my ideas
on conservation and
preservation. I've painted
hundreds of paintings involving
Southwestern Native Americans and
the region, and I've been very
intrigued by their wonderful
carvings and drawings found on
canyon walls and rock
formations. After visiting
many of the sites and delving
into the mysteries of these
markings, I began incorporating
them into my art. A
continuing symbol from the
petroglyphs and pictographs is
the spiral, which is found in all
of my DANCE Series pieces.
I hope to bring awareness of the
need to value and protect these
sacred places for the education
and enjoyment of future
generations. PLACE OF THE
SUN DANCE received the Daniel
Smith Award in the 22nd Southern
Watercolor Society Exhibition.
